Generic Inderal -LA (Propranolol, Inderal -LA® equivalent)

Propranolol is in a group of medications called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation of blood flow. Propranolol is used to treat tremors, angina (chest pain), hypertension (high blood pressure), heart rhythm disorders, and other heart or circulatory conditions. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack, and to reduce the severity and frequency of migraine headaches. Propranolol may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

MAKE SURE YOUR WATER IS CLEAN

It's no secret that our municipal tap water is less than pristine. According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) records, from 1971 through 1990 there were 570 documented cases in this country of contaminated water causing illnesses affecting thousands of people. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimate that more than a million people every year get sick from microorganisms in drinking water, and 900 to 1,000 die as a result! City water is heavily chlorinated to kill germs. Although this has slashed the incidence of water-borne diseases, chlorination of our water supplies has created an unanticipated, largely unrecognized problem. Chlorine reacts with organic substances such as decaying vegetation in water to create byproducts known as halogenated organic compounds, or trihalomethanes, such as chloroform. These chlorine breakdown products have been implicated in cancers of the bladder, colon, and rectum, as well as in miscarriages.
City water is also fluoridated to prevent tooth decay, and some cities add calcium hydroxide or other alkaline substances to change the pH (acidity) of the water so it doesn't corrode pipes. In addition, heavy metals, including copper and lead, both of which are linked to hypertension and other health problems, have been found in tap water. In 1993 the EPA identified more than 800 water systems, supplying some 30 million Americans, with levels of lead in excess of recommended guidelines. But even if water is lead-free when it leaves the treatment facility, lead may leach out from lead pipes, which are common in older buildings, or lead-soldered pipe joints, which were used until the late 1980s.
My point is that the quality of the water you drink is of paramount importance. You need to drink pure water to get well. Bottled water is an option, but it is expensive, poorly regulated, and, according to some surveys, sometimes little better than tap water. To play it safe, you should consider investing in a home water-treatment system that will consistently maintain the quality of your drinking water. The economics of home filtering are also far more advantageous than buying bottled water. In general, tap water costs about one-tenth of a cent per gallon, while a well-maintained filter unit delivers water at about 5 cents per gallon. Bottled water, however, costs up to 1.60 dollars per gallon, and often the water you're buying is filtered with technology that you could have in your own home.
Some home water-treatment systems, like the sink-side plastic pitchers with replaceable filters, are inexpensive but do little more than reduce the chlorine taste and some of the minerals. I don't recommend reverse-osmosis systems or distillers, because they remove magnesium, calcium, and important trace minerals that are important for blood pressure control. Furthermore, these systems do not remove chlorination by-products unless used in conjunction with another type of filtration. In my opinion, the best water-treatment systems combine an activated solid carbon block filter with an ultraviolet (UV) light chamber. The carbon filter improves taste and removes chemical and organic pollutants and chlorination by-products, while the UV chamber kills microbes in the water.
